Opening March 2017

Dear Texas MBA Alumni,

Recently, I shared with you a portion of our vision for Rowling Hall, the future home of the Texas MBA program. The vision encompasses five interrelated themes: overlapping communities, showcasing, tinkering, innovating, and attracting. In this short note, I outline how Rowling Hall will serve the needs of the tinkerers that pervade the Texas MBA program.

Texas MBAs are known for their work ethic in the workplace. They have established a reputation as leaders, team players, and as I was informed by leaders at a certain firm in Cupertino, "Texas MBAs are tinkerers." They roll up their sleeves and seek solutions. They take risks and try new things. They make things happen.

Rowling Hall will ensure that continues. Plentiful study rooms are spread throughout the building design. Truly innovative classroom spaces are incorporated to promote tinkering, the building of physical and virtual prototypes, the creation and sharing of ideas, and the evaluation thereof. A prominently located design-thinking focused classroom will showcase that tinkering so that students, faculty, and visitors see and feel the tinkering in real time!

Open discussion and evaluation of new ideas, active solving of challenging problems, rolling up our sleeves and tinkering—that's what makes the Texas MBA program unique. Spaces that support that activity are essential components of what's being designed into the new home of the Texas MBA program: Rowling Hall.

If you'd like to be involved in the project, please see the opportunities. With your help now, we'll enter this transformational space in March 2017.

I'll be back in a week or so to let you know how Rowling Hall will support the innovations that make the Texas MBA program special. Until then, all the best and Hook 'Em Horns!

Eric Hirst
Associate Dean for Graduate Programs
