Opening March 2017

Dear Texas MBA Alums,

Recently, I shared with you a portion of our vision for Rowling Hall, the future home of the Texas MBA program. The vision encompasses five interrelated themes: overlapping communities, showcasing, tinkering, innovating, and attracting. In this short note, I outline how the design and architecture serve to showcase the Texas MBA program and the McCombs School of Business.

As part of The University of Texas at Austin, a renowned research institution, faculty at McCombs contribute to the discovery of knowledge and share that knowledge in journals, at conferences, in textbooks, and importantly, in the classroom. Much of that knowledge is shared through a wide variety of research centers. Its application to practice comes through the wide range of applied learning opportunities experienced by Texas MBAs.

Rowling Hall is designed to showcase that knowledge and those experiences. The main floor will prominently feature the MBA Investment Fund, the Center for Leadership Excellence, the Marketing Fellows Program, and Texas Venture Labs, to name a few. The special events room and auditorium will serve as first-class spaces to host conferences bringing together students, faculty, and the business community. Throughout Rowling Hall, the deliberate showcasing of what makes McCombs, the Texas MBA program, and its alumni, special will ensure that the overlapping communities that share the space (students, alumni, faculty, staff, and visitors) come away understanding that at Texas, what starts here really does change the world.

If you'd like to be involved in the project, please see the opportunities. With your help now, we'll enter this transformational space in March 2017.

I'll be back in a week or so to let you know how Rowling Hall will support the tinkerers that make the Texas MBA program special. Until then, all the best and Hook 'Em Horns!

Associate Dean for Graduate Programs
